Sentenil de las Bodegas: Rock City Spain..
Modern Setenil began in the year 1484, The fortress was largely demolished at this time. The Marquis of Cádiz led the royal troops in this final battle against the Moors. The town name is supposedly derived from the Latin phrase “septem nihil,” which means “seven times no,” a possible reference to earlier invasions that were repelled by the townsfolk.
In 1501, Sentenil de las Bodegas, is derived from the fact that huge warehouses (“bodegas”) were constructed to store produce. That’s literally what some of the inhabitants of Setenil de las Bodegas feel like, because part of this small Spanish town is covered by a large cliff. And this big piece of stone looks like it could come tumbling down on tens of houses if an earthquake happens in the area.
